STUDENT AUTHORS

Dear Student Authors:

As you already know, the 1997 International Conference on Neural Networks (ICNN '97) is will provide travel support to a limited number of students who are planning to present a paper at the Conference. The funds were provided by the IEEE Neural Networks Council to help develop the next generation of researchers in the field.

Selection was mainly based on the quality of the paper accepted for presentation at the Conference. The only reliable quality criterion available to us is the evaluation of the student papers submitted by the reviewers and the Area Chairs.

Note: The students selected will be asked to provide official documents proving their student status.

I hope to see you in Houston,

N. B. Karayiannis

General Chair, ICNN '97

STUDENT TRAVEL SUPPORT DETAILS

Basic Requirements: -------------------

All students must have a current, valid student identification card. The card will be required at registration to obtain the student rate. We plan to use the student card to verify student status for travel support. Also all students must be IEEE or INNS student members to qualify for this support. (Information for membership application is available on this site.

Reimbursement Procedures: -------------------------

All travel support and travel awards will be provided via reimbursements after the Conference by the Finance Chair of the ICNN '97. The reimbursements can be only be made for travel expenditures (airfare, or mileage) to and from the conference, lodging, and student conference registration. Original receipts will be required and the IEEE travel forms will be made available for the reimbursements.

Eligibility Criteria: ---------------------

I. Student Authors

Student-authors will be classified by the level of participation as follows:

  1. Solo Author (and therefore presenter),
  2. Co-author and presenter.

There is no distinction between primary and non-primary co-authors. The funds will be allocated according to the following scheme: $800 maximum for class 1, $700 maximum for class 2.

II. Student Volunteers

We certainly want to encourage interested students and those students considering neural networks as their research subject to participate. To justify this support, these students will be required to assist during the conference. This would include meeting room set-up assistance, assistance with poster set-up, etc., as required by the conference organization staff. This category of support would cover only the normal student registration.

Student Travel Grants will be awarded on the basis of merit.
